Presidents’ Award 2009
Spring is the perfect time to highlight what our talented, dedicated, innovative and professional colleagues have come up with to fill the gap between what our customers need and the resources we have to provide it. The Presidents’ Award is about how we can continue to meet the needs of patients, families, care providers and our community, even in difficult economic times.
The Professional Development Committee had the pleasure of reviewing five outstanding volunteer programs nominated for the 2009 NEADHVS President’s Award.
The nominees were:
- Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston ME: Pet Therapy Visitor Program
- Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH: Auxiliary Anniversary Project
- Hartford Hospital, Hartford, CT: Fall Prevention Safety Monitoring Volunteer Program
- Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA: Appointment Buddy Program
- Togus VA Medical Center, Augusta ME: Project Healing Water
- York Hospital, York ME: York Hospital’s Bridges Program
The nominees were judged by the State Association Presidents on the following criteria:
- Advancement of the institution’s mission
- How the program was unique, dynamic or innovative
- The needs addressed
- The goals of the program and how volunteers fit in achieving them
- Milestones or significant successes
- Evaluation of effectiveness
- Current status and future plans
This year’s winner was the Hartford Hospital’s Fall Prevention Safety Monitoring Volunteer Program submitted by Eileen Pelletier and Kelley Boothby. The Safety Monitor program was designed to involve volunteers in the enhancement of a safe environment for patients through the monitoring of staff’s compliance with fall prevention protocol.
Please join us in congratulating Eileen and Kelly and their team on their wonderful success. It is not too early to think about nominating your unique, dynamic and innovative programs for next year.
