Michelle Caruso, CAVS Selected as the 2009 New England Award for Professional Excellence (NEAPE) Winner
Michelle Caruso, CAVS is the recipient of the 2009 NEAPE Award. Michelle joins a prestigious group of Award winners including Pat Rowell, Massachusetts General Hospital, Joe Dooley, CAVS Bedford VA Hospital, Sandy Cranford, CAVS, Maine Medical Center, and Millie Stewart, Mid Coast Hospital.
Michelle is the Director of Volunteer services at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. Michelle has held leadership positions in local, regional and national volunteer associations. She served as Education Chair and President of MADHVS; Education Chair and President for NEADHVS and most recently as Board Member at large for AHVRP. Throughout her tenure in all these organizations Michelle worked tirelessly to deliver high quality professionalism to volunteer healthcare management. It was, and continues to be, Michelle’s desire to advance our profession through educational programming, certification standards and practicing volunteer healthcare management with distinction and professionalism. She was instrumental in the redesign of the CAVS exam and certification process. She served as the chairperson of the AHVRP Committee on Certification.
As Education Chair for NEADHVS, Michelle’s big achievement was the conference at the Chatham Bars Inn on Cape Cod. She delivered high quality programming and maintained fiscal accountability, at a conference setting that most likely would have been out of NEADHVS’s financial reach. Through leadership and careful negations, Michelle shined through to see that our conference was memorable and enjoyable for all.
Michelle was presented the NEAPE Award at the Fall Conference Business luncheon meeting, October 23rd, in Nashua, NH. Although Jordan Hospital President Peter Holden was not able to attend the luncheon, he sent his personal congratulations to Michelle. Mr. Holden wrote, "I admit that I am biased but believe Michelle is a most worthy recipient of this honor and a superb role model for your association. She has built a phenomenally successful volunteer program at Jordan Hospital and the volunteers play a critically important role in our organization every day."
Please join Mr. Holden and the NEADHVS board in congratulating Michelle on her achievement.
The NEAPE award was developed by the NEADHVS board of directors in 2005 to recognize members who have demonstrated extraordinary service and contributions to the advancement of the healthcare volunteer management profession, the Association, and their local healthcare facility and community.
Applicants are members of NEAHDVS and have demonstrated leadership in volunteer management, made significant contributions to the advancement of the profession of volunteer management, are active participants in NEADHVS, and in local, regional or state and national volunteer management organizations. Applicants also walk the talk by participation in local community endeavors, e.g. service to schools, churches, and charitable organizations.
Award winners are nominated by their peers. The nominations are judged by the State Association Presidents and the award is presented annually at the NEADHVS Fall Conference.
